The New York Times: The challenge of diagnosing lyme disease

The New York Times reports that Lyme disease is on the rise with over 30,000 cases reported annually by state health departments. The biggest problem with diagnosing is that there is no reliable biomarker for Lyme, no way to test, unequivocally, for the presence of the bacteria which are transmitted by a tick bite and cause the disease.
