A letter from our leadership

Sandra Fenwick and Dr. Kevin Churchwell (Boston Children's)

Over the past few weeks, we have witnessed a series of deeply troubling incidents of racism, hatred, and violence that have created an environment of hostility and fear.

Our country, our communities, and our children are hurting.

The pain of this moment is a call to all of us to stand up and to speak out against inequality and intolerance and to treat everyone with care and respect.

At Boston Children’s Hospital, our core commitment has always been to care … for patients, families, and each other

In these extraordinary times, it is more important than ever that we not only continue to care, but that we strengthen and extend that commitment to ensure that all people feel welcome, cared for, and respected.

It is also important that we safeguard the health and well-being of our children, including their emotional health and well-being.  The news is full of information and images these days that children find disturbing and confusing.  We owe it to our children to talk with them, answer their questions, and allay their fears.

Discoveries contains a wide range of information, including parenting tips, which may help guide those conversations.

We can reassure our children — and help give them a better future — one conversation at a time.

Sincerely,
Sandra L. Fenwick
